Web Gem - Re: Reflections on the first Women's National Team

Current Long Island Lady Riders General Manager Kim Wyant reflects on ussoccer.com on being the first goalkeeper to play for the US Women's National Team, recording the first win and shutout. Wyant went on to win four W-League Goalkeeper of the Year honors, leading the league in nearly every all-time statistical category. She was inducted into the USL Hall of Fame in 2003.

Sunderland visit from SAFC.com

Newly promoted EPL side Sunderland fell 3-0 to the Vancouver Whitecaps Saturday in the first of three preseason friendlies against the USL First Division's northwest trio. They continue the series in Seattle Wednesday and wrap up in Portland next Saturday. Fans can also follow the series on Sunderland's site to see the visitors point of view.

W-League players in action for US

Eight current and four former W-League players will be with the US Sunday in a friendly against Ukraine in Portland. Heather Mitts (Central Florida), Cat Reddick (New Jersey), Lindsay Tarpley (New Jersey), Danielle Fotopoulos (Central Florida), Heather O'Reilly (New Jersey), Angela Hucles (Boston), Christie Welsh (New Jersey Wildcats) and Tina Frimpong (Seattle) are missing W-League action for National Team duty. Former W-Leaguers Lorrie Fair, Shannon Boxx, Kristine Lilly and Carli Lloyd were also named to the game roster. Catch the game at 12:30 pm ET on ESPN2 or on ussoccer.com Match Tracker.

Web Gem - Re: PDL Game of the Year?

In what may be considered the PDL's Game of the Year, the Indiana Invaders handed the Chicago Fire Premier their first loss since 2003, a 35-game regular season unbeaten streak. With a 1-0 lead Chicago held Indiana scoreless until the 88th minute before the Invaders tied it up to force overtime, which proved even more thrilling. Suspension Change / Point deductions

Bill Sedgewick (Rochester) will be available for this weekend's matches due to an appeal of his six-game suspsension. Also, the PDL San Diego Gauchos were ruled to have used an illegal player in Sunday's 2-2 draw against Bakersfield. The match was ruled a 1-0 forfeit to the Brigade and San Diego recieved a three point deduction in the standings.
